Experiences

We measure our lives in experiences. Sharing collective experiences leads to stronger relationships; new experiences lead to inspiration and empathy; interactive and playful experiences build community by encouraging participation and collaboration; hands-on experiences lead to deeper learning. The best experiences help us experience flow—when we’re fully engaged, immersed in the moment, we literally feel happier.

It’s not about looking at exhibits, or reading about concepts. When you experience something, you process the world through action and reflection. You live in the moment, and then it lives in your memories.

You can step out of your own life and immerse in a new world: a dark cave with glowworms lighting up above your head or a legendary movie set. Sometimes, the experience around an object can make more of a difference than the object itself—like a sensory flower that makes meat taste better, a museum exhibit where you enter the mind of a great artist, a compelling story behind a rug, or a movie that takes you on a helicopter ride over New Zealand's wilderness.

What makes a meaningful and engaging experience? We explore how they can help us think differently, build empathy, and overall stir a sense of inspiration and wonder for daily life.
